Summer is approaching fast which means that it’ll be school holidays before you know it. Here are our top five picks for family activities in Perth and how to avoid those “I’m borrrrred” calls from the kids.
A favourite spot for both Perthites as well as travellers to the city, Perth Zoo, situated nearby the South Perth foreshore, is a must-do over summer. The zoo is spread out over 17 ha and features over 170 species set in lush gardens that also attract local wildlife.
Admission prices are $27 for adults, kids 4-15yrs $24 and kids under 4 free. A mini-group of two adults and two children is $75.20. This includes special talks and walks such as Rapt in Reptiles and Giraffe Eye to Eye. Book our Family Getaway package and tickets to the Zoo are included.
> Opening times are 9-5pm daily. Catch a ferry from the Barrack St jetty to South Perth for some added fun.

Pop Up Water Park
The latest addition to Perth summer is none other than Australia’s first ever pop-up waterpark, Xscape at the City. Set to open in late November, 2015, it will be situated alongside Belmont racecourse, a mere 4km from the city centre. The park will feature waterslides such as the 23m ‘The Drop’, the world’s tallest inflatable racer slide, ‘The Dinosaur Pool’ for little ones, and ‘The Obstacle Course’, which will be Australia’s longest inflatable obstacle course.
Full park all-day admission is $32.50, and spectators are $4, with $2 going to Telethon.
> Opening times will be 10am to 5pm through until the end of April 2016. The site is accessible by bus from the city.

Excite and stimulate young minds while beating the heat at Scitech. The centre features exhibits that put the sparkle into Science and will have both you and the kids amazed. Summer’s featured exhibit is ‘Astronaut’, sure to be a winner for the budding astronaut in your family.
An adult pass is $17 and children 4-12 are $24, with kids under 4 free.
> Opening times are 9.30am-4pm during the week, and 10am-5pm on weekends. Catch a bus or train to City West station to visit Scitech, or head in early for on-site paid parking.

Take the kids out for a free day of entertainment to the Northbridge Piazza for Pizziarama! Featuring live entertainment and films on the first Sunday of each month, Pizziarama is family friendly fun with a themed festival-like atmosphere.

> Admission is free, and the event runs from 12pm to 4pm. Catch a bus, cab, or Uber to the Northridge Piazza, or use one of the carparks nearby.

Kings Park Synergy Park
Don’t forget the fun that is King’s Park! Synergy playground is aimed at 6+yr olds and features a large playground including an island fort, and the Windy Walk. Make a day of it by packing a picnic, or indulging at the nearby award-winning Zamia Café.
> Admission is free, with entry recommended from 8am-4.30pm. Parking is available onsite, or catch a bus or cab to May Drive, on the western side of King’s Park.
